On January 16, 2026, Saint Petersburg State University held the 16th International Conference “The Eurasian Arc of Instability and Regional Security Challenges from East Asia to North Africa” where experts summarized the geopolitical events and processes of 2025.

The conference has been held since 2012. Annual maps indicating current instability arcs and conflict hotspots are an important part of the project.
 
The speakers represented leading universities, research institutions and academic centers, government structures, private corporations, expert clubs and social projects. They discussed ongoing and finished conflicts on the world politics arena, analyzing them within the framework of instability arc concept.
 
CAIS Researcher Grigory Lukyanov presented his paper “Role of Arabian Peninsula States in the Dynamics of Conflicts in the Northeastern Triangle Region (Libya, Egypt, Sudan)” at the session “African and Middle Eastern Segments of the Eurasian Instability Arc”. The paper was met with great interest and sparked a profound discussion.
