On March 13, 2026, CAIS held a round table dedicated to the collective monograph “Mosaic of Iraqi Political History, 20th – 21st Centuries”.
The event became a venue for a professional dialog on historical and political processes in Iraq from the era of monarchy to the present times. The participants discussed main stages of the country’s development, ethnoreligious features of the political process, external influence and stabilization prospects in the 2020s.
Head of CAIS, IOS RAS Deputy Director Prof. Vasily Kuznetsov opened the round table. CAIS Researchers Grigory Lukyanov and Ruslan Mamedov, who compiled the book, moderated the discussion. They presented the concept of the work, described the context and history of its creation, focusing on the current state and key trends in Iraqi studies in Russa, and pointed out the changing role of Iraq in current regional relations. The monograph is dedicated to the memory of our colleague Dr. Konstantin Truevtsev (1943-2023), who made a significant contribution to the research on the contemporary history of Iraq and proposed the first concept of a work on it.
Authors of the monograph, renowned researchers from Moscow, Minsk, Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Sevastopol, described their approach to choosing their chapter’s topic and direction, outlined their contribution and the results of their research.
Concluding the round table, the participants expressed their wish to continue cooperation and planned to hold an open conference on Iraqi studies in the second half of 2026.
