On March 23-27, 2026, the Inter-Department Academic Group for Palestine-Israeli Conflict Studies of IOS RAS and Tyumen State University’s School of Oriental Studies held a series of online lectures on the Palestine-Israeli conflict.

The event attracted more than 300 listeners from a number of Russian universities and academic institutions, including Tyumen State University, IOS RAS, MSU Institute for Asian and African Studies, etc.

Opening the lecture series, Grigory Lukyanov tried to find a general conceptual framework for comprehensive research of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the entire diversity of its forms and dimensions. In particular, he focused on the key approaches to definition and usage of main concepts existing in contemporary studies to identify, classify and systematize conflicts around Palestine and Israel’s fates that emerged in the heart of the Middle East.

In her lecture, Dr. Nosenko defined several stages in the history of the Jerusalem issue as one of the most critical aspects of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. She emphasized Jerusalem’s special meaning as a holy city for the three main monotheistic religions and focused on the international community’s effort to secure its UN-controlled status at the moment when Palestine was divided.

Dr. Khlebnikova centered her lecture around the historical perspective of the Palestine issue as viewed inside Israeli society and government,

Mikhail Zubovsky described the evolution of various Palestinian movements, including those that had emerged even before the State of Israel appeared.

The last lecture was devoted to the media coverage of the conflict. Dr. Sofya Ragozina presented a wide methodological perspective on the issue and emphasized the main approaches allowing to effectively analyze public discourse, propaganda and bias around the conflict.

After every lecture, the listeners had a unique opportunity to ask questions and take part in the academic discussion on the main issues around the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
