CAIS Researchers Took Part in the Expert Seminar “Russia and Turkey: Comparing the Strategies of Extra-Regional Actors towards the Gulf Countries”
On December 13, 2024, The Evgeny Primakov Center for International Cooperation held the expert seminar “Russia and Turkey: Comparing the Strategies of Extra-Regional Actors towards the Gulf Countries”, in which CAIS researchers took part.
The event included the presentation of analytical theses "Russia and Saudi Arabia in the New World Order" by Nikolay Surkov, Ph.D. in Political Science and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies of IMEMO.
The presentation was followed by an expert seminar discussing Turkey's geopolitical role in the region and its relations with Gulf countries, particularly in light of the evolving security architecture and the fall of the Assad regime in Syria. CAIS Research Fellow Grigory Lukyanov presented a paper that became a starting point for a fruitful discussion. Senior Research Fellow Dr. Ruslan Mamedov moderated the event.
The seminar brought together leading Russian Middle East experts from the Institute of Oriental Studies, HSE University, MGIMO, RSUH, and IMEMO.
