School of Oriental Studies for Young Scholars (MGIMO – IOS RAS). Day 2

 
On Saturday, October 28, the "School of Oriental Studies for Young Scholars", organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the MGIMO-University as part of the Priority 2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Program consortium, continued its work.

On the second day, the participants learned about various aspects of practical Oriental Studies.

Together with Dr. Ruslan Mamedov, Senior Research Fellow at CAIS, the students looked into the role of NGOs in contemporary Russian public diplomacy in the Middle East. The next lecture by Deputy Director of IOS RAS Prof. Valentin Golovachev was dedicated to the role and features of oral history in the Russian Oriental Studies.

The work day also included practical sessions. CAIS Junior Research Fellow, Deputy Chief Editor of Oriental Courier academic journal Anastasia Vasilenko discussed the role of texts in the professional life of an Oriental Studies scholar and shared nine rules that can help to write a quality text. Last but not least, the topic of field research was touched upon. Aida Petrosyan, CAIS Junior Research Fellow, shared her valuable experience of field research in conflict-ridden Syria.

In November, the second training module will begin, when the MGIMO-University will open its doors to the participants. Upon completion of the program, the students will receive certificates of advanced training from MGIMO, and master's and postgraduate students will receive certificates of advanced training.
