On October 21, Center for Arab and Islamic Studies, Institute of Oriental Studies RAS and UAE Embassy in Russia held an online meeting of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Russia Muhammad Ahmed Al Jaber with Russian students specializing in Middle East Studies. The meeting was dedicated to the issues of female leadership in the Middle East based on UAE’s case.

His Excellency and other diplomats of the embassy told students about approaches to the strategy of female leadership in UAE, the country’s numerous achievements in this field and the social role of contemporary Emirati women.
They pointed out that women in the Emirates have unlimited options of self-realization. The speakers provided examples of success achieved by them in various fields, from diplomacy (women represent UAE as Ambassadors in 9 countries, moreover, the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN is also a woman) to aviation (for instance, a female test pilot)
The Ambassador emphasized that female empowerment and self-realization finds support in UAE, no matter the way a particular woman chooses.
Moreover, President of the Institute Prof. Vitaly Naumkin addressed the participants, underlining the importance of such meetings.
We are glad to note that the online meeting attracted students of various specializations besides Middle East Studies – more than 100 people took part in it. At the end of the event, the students could directly discuss the role and status of women in UAE with the Ambassador.
