Islam in Modern World: Doctrine and Community
The Conference topics were relevant to contemporary Islamic Studies and were a priority in the Insitute's research program.
- Timelessness of truth in a changing world: interpretation and instrumentalization of sacred texts and its use in social practices;
- Key trends in evolution of Islamic legal thought: reapprochement and rejection of Madhhabs; Fiqh for minorities; correlation of Fiqh, and secular law systems;
- Sufism today: religious and philosophic legacy; rebirth of Sufi ritual practices; historical and modern role of the Sufi Tariqas; spiritual practices of self improvement, development of the Sufi theosophy;
- Islam and politics: political theology of Islam; pseudo-religious radicalism and political instrumentalization of the religious doctrine;
- Interdenominational and intradenominational dialogues: dialectics of Sunni-Shia relationships; role of political processes in its development; theological pluralism and Neo-Jadidism phenomenon;
- Islam in interreligious dialogue: denominational accord, unity and diversity of the Abrahamic tradition; comparative theology and source studies of the history of Abrahamic religions;
- National traditions of religious practice and the universalism of the Islamic doctrine; Islamic humanism; rebirth of the Russian school of Islamic theology.
